Thanks for the good information and useful suggestions.

I'd add one thing to your suggestion to focus on individual employees' needs, and that is to distribute total compensation statements to employees. In a recent study (see http://bit.ly/gUjZm), MetLife calls total compensation statements a "top and immediate priority" for employers seeking to improve communications and engagement.

Great summary. Using social media is a great idea. Employers should also be encouraged to resurrect in-person meetings and sending materials to employee's homes.
