Hello, I have been coaxed into contributing to this blog.  I hope that I can add a bit of clarity to the medical benefits world out there while hopefully sharing some real cost saving opportunities for our readers........maybe with a tad bit of humor tucked in?

2.  Now for the mundane - break down your location, title, company/firm and what you do for a living. 

 I am a health care / benefits consultant for one of the largest brokerage firms in the world.  I am located in Birmingham, Alabama and I love what I do.  I deal with large to mid size employers and attempt to control their benefit costs, take work off the HR department's desk and help educate and train their employees.  It is a very rewarding and I love to be able to help others understand the complicated world of benefits.

3.  One more question that everyone expects.  What's the reason you're in this game? (why do you do what you do?)

I am here because I worked for one of the country's largest and most efficient Blue Plan for over 10 years in its medical management division.  I loved what I did and gained invaluable knowledge about health management programs (case management, disease management, wellness, predictive models, ROI methodologies, etc) BUT wanted to try to do more.  During my time at the "Blue" I learned a lot about what mid size to large employer's' pain spots were and I wanted to see if I could help reduce some of that pain.  So here I am ready or not........

4.  If you've ever been to a professional baseball game, you know batters from the home team get to pick their own theme music as they walk from the dugout to the plate.  If we ever have a convention, what theme music will you come out to to pump the crowd up and why?

5.  Let's stick with the baseball theme.  If you've ever been to a pro game, you also know that the visitor doesn't get to pick their own music.  The home team picks that for them, and it's usually less than stellar as a means of attempting to crush them.  If you could pick theme music for your arch-rival to walk into a conference room to, what would it be and why?

6.  Finish the following sentence - "When I'm talking to someone about benefits, I can tell they have no clue what I'm talking about because ____________..."

7.  Name the actor/actress that will portray you in the movie about you.  Why the heck is that a fit?

8.  List three of your favorite books to pander to the educated segment of our readership...

-Mere Christianity - CS Lewis (Deep)

-John Adams - David McCullough (wonderful "leader" and husband)

-Many many health related "white papers" - some feel like books but what can I say I like it!

-I try to read (when I can) books that I can learn something from.  Not much time for fiction

9.  List three of your favorite movies to connect with the segment of our readership that doesn't like to read...

-A Beautiful Mind - the love story (commitment, perseverance) PLUS he thought out of the box, maybe a crazy box but...........

-Happy Gilmore - boy, would I love to drive like that.

-The Incredibles - (I told you I had kids)  Stick together and you can do anything as a family

1967 Buick Skylark - very old and rusted (not a tin roof).  My parents told me it would build character.  I hope the jury is not still out on that one?  But I do believe in an integrous character.
